This two video set is 3 1/2 hours long, and takes you step by step by step through eight projects from beginning to advanced. Latex is an inexpensive, thick brushable liquid that dries to form a durable soft rubber. It can be used to make highly detailed molds that will "peel off" of shapes with severe undercuts, It can then be backed up with a plaster mold for support if needed. Use latex molds to create polyester, urethane or plaster parts. There is no substitute for seeing how it's done.

Secrets of Building an
Injection Molding Machine
Injection molding is a process where molten plastic is forced under pressure into a cavity where it cools and forms a part. On the surface it appears to be a technology well beyond a home shop. This book shows you how to build a simple inexpensive tabletop machine from ordinary parts. You will need to weld angle iron for the frame and you should have a lathe or at least a drill press to make an accurate hole for the injection cylinder. Sources are given for the heating element and thermostat. A very simple machine you can build in a weekend. Use simple molds made from aluminum, steel, epoxy or even plaster. Purchased molds are also available. The best part is that you can use recycled plastic bottles for the molding material. Easy to build and a lot of fun. A great introduction to this important process.

EDM How to Book
Electrical Discharge Machining (EDM), often called spark erosion, uses electrical discharges to remove unwanted material. This book shows how to build and use a “Sink” or “Ram” type machine that will take a shaped electrode and slowly plunge it down into any conductive material no matter how hard it is. Imagine taking a square electrode and plunging it into a block of solid carbide. What other tool can make a blind square hole? EDM can do it even in solid carbide. It’s a slow process, but it can do otherwise impossible jobs. The most obvious is removing broken taps and drills without harming the workpiece.

This magical process can remove steel parts such as broken taps and drills that are too hard to remove any other way. A series of articles from Home Shop Machinist that shows you how to build a sophisticated machine that would be unaffordable if purchased new. A possible money maker, you can offer your services to machine shops and auto repair facilities for removing broken taps and drills. The Mechanical parts are a very simple machine shop project, a simple mechanism that lowers an electrode precisely with a stepper motor. This project also requires enough electrical knowledge to be able to solder and follow directions assembling the circuit board. Complete parts list and wiring diagrams included. An intermediate project to build a very useful machine.
